We are proud to be only one of three roasters from the United States to have successfully bid on a lot in the 2020 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence {COE}--the first of its kind! To say lots from this auction were highly sought after would be an understatement.
Cup of Excellence is the world’s most prestigious competition and auction for premium coffees. Thousands of applicants enter each year and are evaluated through a three-stage process by industry experts. The winning coffees are then available for a global online auction with proceeds going back to farmers. Cup of Excellence is an invaluable resource because it allows us to discover unique, high-quality coffees from lesser-known farmers.
Scoring a taste score of 88.18 and 16th place in the 2020 Ethiopia COE competition, we introduce you to our Cup of Excellence - Ethiopia {Lot 16}!
This lot was produced by Abdulkaf Teyib Kedir from West Arsi in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. While Abdulkaf has been in the coffee business for 17 years, this was his first time entering the competition and trading internationally.
We couldn’t be more excited to roast Abdulkaf’s micro-lot and are ecstatic for you to try it. Our Cup of Excellence - Ethiopia {Lot 16} is a natural sun-dried coffee with a full, sparkling, syrupy and juicy body with a lingering, saturated fresh fruit finish. Our Head Roaster {Nick} carefully roasted this coffee to accentuate the unique tasting notes naturally found in the beans, resulting in notes of soft kiwi, mango, papaya with honeysuckle and vanilla custard.
We are proud to be the only US roaster to have secured this micro-lot from the 2020 Ethiopian Cup of Excellence auction!
