The Cup of Excellence® program is the most prestigious coffee quality competition in the world. The Alliance for Coffee Excellence, a non-profit organization, manages the competition and provides general support for coffee excellency. Several countries participate each year and submit thousands of lots, but only a handful are selected to go to auction with a majority of the proceeds going directly to the farmer.Parisi Coffee secured a micro-lot from the Cup of Excellence 2020 Ethiopia auction. About the Farmer:
Abdulkaf Teyib Kedir, 46, is a coffee farmer in West Arsi, Nensebo woreda, Nensebo Chebi kebele, Oromia. He has been in the coffee business for the last 17 years. He has 3 hectares of land and produces 11,700 kilograms of natural sun-dried coffee beans annually, processed on his farm. “I sell my coffee to local traders and have sustainable income,” Abdulkaf said. Abdulkaf has never been involved in the export business. In the Cup of Excellence competition, his coffee scored 88.18, earning him 16th place. “I am very happy that my coffee is recognized and I will be able to trade internationally,” he said.
